Kansas City NGS, a WOW experience for genealogists

I attended my first National Genealogical Society Conference in Kansas City Missouri, in April 2008. The excitement and energy of new things in genealogy is still as strong as it was when I started genealogy endeavors over 7 years ago. It was an incredible lineup of excellent speakers. Choosing among them was extremely difficult. John Colleta packed the room with his talk on writing your story. Women's issues like adoption and property law were hot topics as well. Speakers like Elizabeth Shown Mills, Karen Clifford, Claire Bettag, and Paul Milner were on hand to share their expertise.

We previewed new and upcoming technology, websites, software and publishing software. Members had the chance to explore what it means to be accredited or certified as genealogists. There was help for societies interested in growing membership. Class tracks allowed members to choose among topics such as NARA records, ethnic and migration records, certification and accreditation, and technology. I was like a kid in a genealogy candy store!

If you haven't attended a conference it is well worth it. Next year's conference will be in Raleigh North Carolina... start making plans and saving your pennies now! I know I am!
