It is always fitting to pay homage to what many now call "The Greatest Generation"- those Americans who participated in the momentous events of World War II between 1941 and 1945.
The
Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities through its Readings in Literature and culture (RELIC) series and the
Bluebonnet Regional Library in Baton Rouge, LA will offer a unique perpspective on World War II beginning August 27, 2008.
We invite the public to enlist in a campaign to discover, or re-discover, the world Americans knew during what is arguably the most critical period in modern history. Those who volunteer for duty may participate by reading selected sections from books on the subject and deploy weekly at the library to combat our fading historical memory of the sacrifices and achievements of that generation.
So "Back the Attack " by attending as many sessions as you can, doing as much of the reading as possible, and recruiting a friend to bolster our forces.
Don't be awed by the reading challenge, the assignments are manageable. If you cannot or prefer not to do the reading COME anyway. You can still support the cause with your insights, experiences and memories...and folks, this time...
loose lips ...WON'T...sink ships! We want to hear from YOU!
Register by calling the Bluebonnet Regional Library at 763-2283. If you wish to participate in the readings, please come to the library at 9200 Bluebonnet Blvd. to pick up your books and reading assignments. Dr. Stanley Hilton from LSU will be our fearless leader. The group discussions will commence August 27th, Wednesday at 1 p.m. and continue each Wednesday afternoon ( 1:00 p.m at the library meeting room) until October 4th.
