Maps at Bluebonnet Regional Library, Baton Rouge

The Bluebonnet library has about 400 historical maps that can help with genealogical research. The three keys that help with finding your ancestors includes: who, when and where. The 'where' is an important key. Keeping research fruitful means knowing how boundaries change over time. while ancestors might be one county in later history, that county may have been part of another county in earlier times. Check out the maps listed on GENEALOGY LINKS (GenLinks listed below in our LINKS section). Another way to access the page is to click on the tile above for a quick links to the site. Come see the staff at the library to browse any of these maps.

WW2 program on Hold

The Readings in Literature and Culture (RELIC) series of discussions about World War 2 that began at Bluebonnet Library on August 27th will not meet on Wednesday, Sept. 10th. The library has cancelled all meeting room use and programs until next week. This is to allow the rooms to be available for recovery efforts after Hurricane Gustav.

The first meeting of the discussion for WW2 was a wonderful success. Thanks to all who came. Please check to see when the classes will be resumed. Right now it is a waiting game to see what IKE has in mind.

On a general note, the libraries of East Baton Rouge were all affected by power outages. Some libraries sustained wind and water damage. Many of our staff are still without power and have suffered damage in the storm. Be kind to your librarians this week. The Bluebonnet Genealogy Collection remained safe and dry.

The libraries are open for business and operating on modified hours because of curfew. Internet and computer services are available. Traffic may be difficult so plan extra time for your trip. If you have questions, please call your branch for information.

Happy Ancestral Hunting!

Hurricane Gustav update

HI Friends...
Hurricane Gustav has blown away any meeting plans for the time being. If you had a meeting planned at the East Baton Rouge Parish libraries, please be aware that the libraries are still without power and unable to operate at this time. The Bluebonnet genealogy collection and library seems to have weathered the storm well. We are hoping to be open next week. I just got my internet working and will try to post any updates for you.
